Hydronic floor heating

A guide to heating from the floor up

What is radiant heat?

Radiant heat passes from a warm surface straight to the people and objects around it, the way the sun warms you on a cool day. It doesn’t rely on moving air around the room.

With radiant floor heating, the whole floor becomes a large, gently warm surface. It warms you, the furniture and the room from below.

What is hydronic floor heating?

Floor heating is either electric, with heating cables or mats under the floor, or hydronic, with warm water running through pipe in the floor. Warmboard is hydronic.

A heat source, such as an air-to-water heat pump, warms the water. A manifold sends it through loops of pipe laid in the channels of the Warmboard panels, and the panels’ aluminium face spreads the heat across the floor. Each room or zone can have its own setting.

Where Warmboard fits

Design

Warmboard’s design team draws the panel layout, pipe loop plan and materials list for your project.

New builds

Warmboard-S is a structural panel that goes over joists in place of the flooring sheet, or over a slab.

Renovations

Warmboard-R goes over an existing floor, so you can add floor heating without rebuilding the floor.

Why Warmboard

Most floor coverings

Timber, tiles, stone, carpet, vinyl and more can go over Warmboard. There are no vents or heaters to work around.

Fast, even warmth

The aluminium face spreads heat across the floor, so the system runs on lower water temperatures and responds quickly.
